WATCH: Haley Joel Osment as JD Vance Visits a Donut Shop and Tries and Fails to Be Normal

Haley Joel Osment, best known for seeing dead people in 1999’s Sixth Sense, has been playing Sen. JD Vance (R-OH) on Jimmy Kimmel Live and it might be one of his strongest roles to date.

Osment has acted regularly since hitting adulthood, doing a lot of comedies (including IFC’s The Spoils of Babylon and Comedy Bang! Bang!, FX’s What We Do in the Shadows, and Amazon Prime’s The Boys), and his weird, short-fused version of former President Donald Trump’s running mate is picking up steam online.

On Wednesday night, Jimmy Kimmel introduced a new ad from Vance’s “campaign” that makes “his donut-shopping a top priority” after he was unable to stick the landing as a normal person existing in a donut shop. Watch the video above at around the 8:30 mark, but here are some highlights:

“Hi. I’m Ohio Senator JD Vance. The mainstream media? They want you to think that I’m weird. They call me ‘creepy,’ ‘cringey,’ ‘awkward,’ that I give people something called ‘the ick.’ They want you to think that I can’t order a simple doornut — donut. SHIT. But that’s ridiculous.”

“Hello, Worker. Can I sit?”

“Sure.”

“So… how long you been Black?”

The reaction online to the donut shop sketch was resoundingly positive:

Osment’s Vance made his debut in September after the presidential debate between Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris:
