Reporter Tells Trump Biden ‘Thinks He Could’ve Beaten You — What Do You Say?’ At New Year’s Eve Party
President-elect Donald Trump responded outside his New Year’s Eve gala to a report that President Joe Biden regrets dropping out because he thinks he could have beaten Trump.
New Year’s Eve means many things to many people — time to load up on all the things you’re going to give up in a few hours until your resolve weakens eight or nine days into the new year, time to look back on a year that was full of surprises, and if you’re a media figure, time to celebrate that appearance on Mediaite’s Most Influential In Media 2024 with your favorite bubbly or mocktail.
There’s Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve over on ABC, while NBC offers up The Day Drinking with Seth Meyers New Year’s Special and CBS goes country with New Year’s Eve Live: Nashville’s Big Bash.
On cable, there’s reruns on MSNBC and Fox News personalities yukking it up on Jimmy Failla’s All-American New Year’s Bash. And it wouldn’t be New Year’s without the Anderson Cooper and Andy Cohen–fueled antics over on CNN New Year’s Eve Live With Anderson Cooper and Andy Cohen.
But Trump was, as usual, attending a New Year’s Eve gala at his Mar-a-lago resort. As he and First Lady Melania Trump made their entrance on the red carpet, reporters lobbed question that ranged from softball about New Year’s resolutions to more policy-focused queries.
One reporter asked Trump about a The Washington Post report that revealed, among other things, that Biden privately regrets dropping out:
PRESIDENT-ELECT DONALD TRUMP: We’re doing a real job with great people. Many are here tonight. But you’re going to be very happy.
REPORTER: Have you got any New Year’s resolutions for 2025?
PRESIDENT-ELECT DONALD TRUMP: Well, I just want everybody to be happy, healthy and well. Thank you.
REPORTER: NY Post reports that Biden regrets dropping out, he thinks he could have beaten you. What do you say?
PRESIDENT-ELECT DONALD TRUMP: Well, he was way behind, he would have I assume not had a chance. He was way behind her.
And we won in record numbers, as you know, every swing state. We won the popular vote by millions and millions of people.
Hey look, I wicsh him well. He had a chance to do it in the debate. And that didn’t work out too well for him. That was I guess the reason that really led to his downfall.
