House Republican Visits Fox to Push Senate On Rushing Trump Nominees Through Because of New Orleans Attack: Important to Project ‘Strength’
Rep. Mike Waltz (R-FL) called for President-elect Donald Trump’s cabinet nominees to be immediately confirmed in the Senate in light of a terror attack in New Orleans that left more than a dozen people dead.
Waltz joined Fox & Friends on Thursday to discuss the previous days car attack on New Orleans’ Bourbon Street where a driver drove his vehicle into a crowd of people, killing at least 15 and injuring dozens more. Shamsud Din Jabbar, a 42-year-old Texas man, was identified by police as the driver. He was killed after engaging in gunfire with police. Officials believe Jabbar was “inspired” by ISIS and that he did not act alone.
On Thursday, Waltz made a connection between the New Orleans attack and an explosion outside the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas where a Tesla Cybertruck filled with explosives blew up, though the damage was mainly contained to the vehicle. The driver was killed and seven others were injured. Both suspects are believed to have rented their cars through the same app, Turo, and both are Army veterans.
“I find it an amazing coincidence — but I don’t think it is a coincidence — that you had two attacks, renting from the same site, both veterans [and] you could have a more radicalized and broader cell. Don’t forget, you also had an Afghan stopped from making election-day attacks so this is why getting President Trump’s cabinet in is so important,” Waltz said.
The Republican lawmaker insisted more controversial picks like Kash Patel to lead the FBI be pushed through on “day one” to “project” strength in the wake of these recent attacks.
“We need Kristi Noem at DHS, we need Kash Patel at FBI, we need Pete Hegseth at DoD, this is an across the government look, Marco Rubio at State and, of course, John Ratcliffe at CIA and Tulsi Gabbard at DNI, this is a moment in transition of vulnerability and President Trump is going to project, because he is, a leader of strength,” Waltz said. “The narrative that we project on day one will be just as important and that’s having our people in place.”
