Speaker Johnson Blasts ‘Derelict In Its Duty’ Biden Admin After New Orleans Attack: ‘Cannot Wait’ For Trump To Restore ‘Law and Order!’
House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) lashed out at President Joe Biden and his administration while reacting to a terror attack in New Orleans that left more than a dozen people killed.
On Thursday’s Fox & Friends, Johnson said he “cannot wait” for President-elect Donald Trump to take office, insisting he will be “restoring real law and order” in his second term.
Shamsud Din Jabbar, a 42-year-old Texas man and Army veteran, was identified by police as the suspect who drove a vehicle into a crowd on New Orleans’ Bourbon Street, killing 15 and injuring dozens more. The driver was killed by police after exchanging gunfire. Officials are investigating the incident as a terror attack and Jabbar was “inspired” by ISIS.” Police do not believe Jabbar worked alone and they have yet to officially rule out a connection to an attack outside the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas, where the driver of a Tesla Cybertruck was killed and seven were injured. The blast, however, was mostly contained and did not damage the building.
Johnson argued on Thursday that there is a direct correlation between an overwhelmed southern border and terror attacks, calling the Biden administration “derelict in its duty” when it comes to securing the border and prioritizing combatting terrorism. The suspect in the New Orleans attack, Jabbar, is an Army veteran from Texas.
He said:
I don’t know if enough attention is being paid to this, but we all know that for the last four years the Biden administration has been completely derelict in its duty. The congressional Republicans, we hear in the house and the senate have repeatedly asked the DHS under the Biden administration about the correlation, the obvious concern about terrorism and the wide open border. The idea that dangerous people were coming here in droves and setting up potentially terrorist cells around the country, we have been ringing the alarms, we impeached DHS Secretary Mayorkas in the House over that very issue and others related to it so this is a big concern. They told us, Lawrence, for four years that the number one threat was so-called racially motivated extremism, it was nonsense. This is the thing that we were all concerned about. This is why we raised the alarms.
While some initial reports suggested Jabar may be a migrant, he has been identified since as being from Texas. He and the suspect in the Las Vegas attack rented their vehicles through the same rental company, the Turo app.
Johnson revealed he was with Trump when the president-elect learned about the attack outside his hotel. He said the former president is “anxious” to return to the White House.
“I will tell you I was at Mar-a-Lago yesterday with President Trump, just a couple of hours after that explosion at his place in Las Vegas at the hotel, and he has concern, as we all do, and he is anxious to take office,” he said. “We cannot wait. We are 18 days away from President Trump being returned to the White House and us restoring real law and order in this country. It will begin securing that border which is a big priority.”
