The NY Giants Have Become Such a Train Wreck That Fans Brought Back a Protest Tactic From the ’70s

The New York Giants’ season has been such a disaster that one fan has resorted to bringing back a form of protest from the 1970s.

Over an hour before the Giants’ Sunday game against the New Orleans Saints, a plane flew over MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. Those who arrived at the stadium got a glimpse of the plane and noticed the message on the banner it was flying.

“Mr. Mara Enough,” the banner read. “Plz Fix This Dumpster Fire.”

The message was directed at John Mara, the president and co-owner of the team.

Heading into Sunday’s game, the Giants were 2-10 and a distance fourth in the NFC East. Making the season even more of a nightmare was the fact that running back Saquon Barkley — who spent his first six years in the NFL with the Giants — was having the best season of his career with the rival Philadelphia Eagles atop the division.

As if things couldn’t get even worse, quarterback Daniel Jones — who the Giants chose to pay before Barkley in 2023 — was waived in late November after being benched.

For older Giants fan, Sunday’s plane sighting was reminiscent of an identical demonstration nearly half a century ago. In 1978, a plane flew a message over Giants Stadium that read, “15 Years of Lousy Football… We’ve Had Enough.”

By the end of Sunday’s game, the frustration of the fans was further validated when the team lost on a blocked field goal.
