SHOCK POLL: Half Of Americans Say Trump ‘Fascist’ — In Poll Taken Before John Kelly Nazi Bombshell

NEW POLL Whopping 49% Of Americans Say Trump 'Fascist' — In Poll Taken BEFORE John Kelly Nazi Bombshell

A new ABC News poll finds that “Half of Americans” see former President Donald Trump as a “fascist” — including double-digits of Republicans — while only 23 percent say the same of Vice President Kamala Harris. And that was before this week’s fascism news dump.

In reporting that dropped Tuesday, former Trump Chief of Staff John Kelly is on tape recounting stunning conversations in which Trump said Nazi leader Adolf Hitler did “some good things” and wished his own generals were more like Hitler’s, and calling Trump a fascist.

Kelly appears to be part of a dambreak of Trump national security officials — former Joint Chiefs Chairman Mark Milley and ex-Trump Secretary of Defense Mark Esper among them — agreeing Trump is a fascist.

In a new ABC News/Ipsos poll, a startling number of Americans agree. “Half of Americans see Donald Trump as a fascist” is the ABC News headline for the poll — the number is 49 percent, statistically half — but a look inside the numbers reveals it isn’t just partisan division that accounts for the figure:

Perceptions of fascism are tied to partisanship: Eighty-seven percent of Democrats call Trump a fascist, compared with 46 percent of independents and 12 percent of Republicans. Harris, for her part, is seen as a fascist by 41 percent of Republicans, 20 percent of independents and 3 percent of Democrats.

It’s similar by candidate support. Eighty-seven percent of registered voters who support Harris for president see Trump as a fascist. Many fewer Trump supporters, 42 percent, apply the fascist label to Harris. Among registered voters who think Trump is a fascist, 8 percent support him anyway.

But perhaps even more stunning is the fact that, as the pollster notes, “Interviews for this survey were completed Tuesday, before The New York Times published an interview in which John Kelly, a retired general and former secretary of homeland security and Trump chief of staff, said Trump ‘certainly falls into the general definition of fascist, for sure.’”

Respondents to the poll were read this definition:

A fascist often is defined as a political extremist who seeks to act as a dictator, disregards individual rights and threatens or uses force against their opponents.

They were then asked if Trump, Harris, both, or neither fit that definition.
