Podcaster Gets Shocking Admission from Woman Who Falsely Accused Duke Lacrosse Players of Rape
The woman who accused several Duke University lacrosse players of raping her in 2006 recently admitted on a podcast that she lied about it.
Crystal Mangum, a former exotic dancer, appeared on a recent episode of Let’s Talk with Kat hosted by Katerena DePasquale. She was interviewed at the North Carolina Correction Institute for Women, where she is serving a 14-year sentence for the murder of her boyfriend in 2013.
During their talk, Mangum came clean about the case that shocked the nation nearly two decades ago.
“The Bible says that you shouldn’t do harm to your neighbor that lives trustingly beside you, and they were my brothers and they trusted me that I wouldn’t betray their trust,” Mangum said of the lacrosse players. “And I testified falsely against them by saying that they raped me when they didn’t; and that was wrong. And I betrayed the trust of a lot of other people who believed in me and made up a story that wasn’t true because I wanted validation from people and not from God.”
On Friday, DePasquale joined Jim Acosta on CNN Newsroom to discuss the confession.
“So, my intentions had nothing to do with getting any confessions out of Crystal,” she said. “I contacted her via an online platform and I asked her if I could interview her; and the protocol of this prison was that she needs to mail me a letter and confirm if she’s down for the interview.
“She did. She mailed me a letter; and in the letter, she said that she would like to give me an interview, but also she would like to apologize to Duke lacrosse players. It was surprising,” added DePasquale.
