Don Lemon Struggles To Wrap His Head Around Trump Being Time’s Person of the Year: ‘Is This A Joke?’
Former CNN host Don Lemon blasted Time for naming President-elect Donald Trump the magazine’s “Person of the Year,” asking, “Is this a joke?”
During The Don Lemon Show on Thursday, Lemon tore into Time’s decision, saying the magazine could have chosen someone “who stands for democracy in the country.” The magazine has chosen presidential winners as their person of the year ever since 2000.
“Time magazine, what are you doing? Let me ask you, Time magazine, what would you say to those women who I guess still read Time magazine?” Lemon asked, going on to reference Trump being found liable by a jury in E. Jean Carroll’s civil rape trial.
The jury found that Trump sexually abused Carroll. Trump continues to deny the alleged encounter ever happened. Lemon also referenced the Jan. 6 Capitol riot and more as issues that should have been disqualifying factors for Trump.
“You have someone on the cover of your magazine who is an adjudicated assaulter. You have someone who inspired an insurrection,” he said. “We have someone who, without a doubt, the evidence is there, tried to overturn a free and fair election. You had someone who had multiple criminal accounts and was found guilty on multiple criminal counts. And you name them Person of The Year.”
Lemon continued to struggle to wrap his head around the magazine’s decision, asking if readers are getting “scammed.”
“”Is this a joke? Did we get something wrong? Did someone scam us? Are we sure about this, producers? There is a convicted felon on the cover of Time magazine as the Person of the Year. Maybe we’re being scammed. Did someone put out a fake tweet or something about this? I don’t know,” he said.
In the magazine’s writeup, they said Trump was chosen for “marshaling a comeback of historic proportions.”
“For marshaling a comeback of historic proportions, for driving a once-in-a-generation political realignment, for reshaping the American presidency and altering America’s role in the world, Donald Trump is Time’s 2024 Person of the Year,” the magazine wrote.
