Jon Stewart Blasts ‘Gag Reflex’ From Dems When He Agrees with RFK Jr., Musk and Others on Issues: ‘How Do You Walk That Tightrope?’
Jon Stewart said there is a “gag reflex” from Democrats when someone like him finds a position he can agree with MAGA figures like Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Elon Musk on.
Stewart spoke with Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) on the latest episode of his The Weekly Show podcast and while the pair shared plenty of criticism of President-elect Donald Trump and his proposals for a second term, Stewart also noted there are points to agree on though many critics refuse to engage across the aisle at all.
Stewart asked Sanders about walking this “tightrope” after Sanders told The Daily Show host that he plans on holding Trump to certain “good things” he’s proposed doing, including a temporary 10% cap on credit card interest rates.
“How do you walk that tightrope? Because what I find is there is a gag reflex from — and I think both parties have — it a gag reflex on Robert Kennedy says ultra processed foods are killing Americans, and and I’m like, yeah,” Stewart said.
“That’s right,” Sanders added in agreement.
“God awful. That’s got to change,” Stewart continued. “But if you were to say that, boy, are you just dog piled. How can you agree with Robert Kennedy Jr on anything? He’s this and that. Elon Musk says we’ve got waste and inefficiency in the government and we’re like, yeah, we’ve been yelling about that for years, and as soon as we do that — how can you? How dare you? It’s really interesting.”
Sanders ran with the point about ultra-processed foods saying he is pushing the Food and Drug Administration to better label certain food products with warnings labels.
“Kennedy is right on that issue. Your point is very much like taking fluoride out of water, that’s a disaster to my mind. Plus many of the other crazy things he says,” the senator said. “For your sake, how do you walk that line? Well, that’s exactly what we are trying to figure out right now.”
