The hosts of Pod Save America went off on President Joe Biden over his decision to offer a pardon to his son, Hunter Biden.

Jon Favreau, Jon Lovett, and Tommy Vietor — all once aides under former President Barack Obama — found themselves in agreement that Biden’s decision makes the Democratic Party look bad as a whole.

“Now everyone looks stupid. Everyone looks like they are full of shit,” Vietor said. “And Republicans are going to use this to argue it was politics as usual when Democrats warned of Trump’s corruption or threat to the rule or the threat to democracy. And I think that’s the piece of this I am most frustrated with, which is Joe Biden looking like a typical, lying politician. And I think that leads to a cynical feeling that all politicians are bad. They are all the same, and that this is just par for the course.”

Vietor did say he understood Biden’s decision to pardon his son on a “human level.” Hunter Biden was awaiting sentencing on tax and gun charges.

Lovett argued that Biden’s decision only provides ammo for Republicans and their allegations of corruption against the Bidens.

“Conservatives are going to say, ‘See? Joe Biden is just protecting himself,'” he said.

Favreau noted that the president had previously promised not to pardon his son, and Favreau believed him.

“I feel like a fucking fool; that’s what makes me mad about it,” he said.

The hosts also blasted the president’s statement explaining his pardon for his son, with Vietor calling it “sympathy inducing” and Lovett chalking it up as “strange.”

“What’s strange about this is A) it comes now [and] B) there’s no acknowledgment in this statement that part of the rationale should be that Donald Trump is about to be president, right?” Lovett said. “The statement is very, like, imperious.”

In his statement, Biden claimed his son has been “unfairly” prosecuted.

“Here’s the truth: I believe in the justice system, but as I have wrestled with this, I also believe raw politics has infected this process and it led to a miscarriage of justice – and once I made this decision this weekend, there was no sense in delaying it further,” the president said. “I hope Americans will understand why a father and a President would come to this decision.”
