House Democrat Says She Heard Republicans Trashing Elon Musk On Congressional Elevator: ‘They’ve Had It!’
Rep. Becca Balint (D-VT) said she overheard Republican congressmen trashing Elon Musk for “inserting himself” into the push to avoid a government shutdown.
Speaker of the House Mike Johnson (R-LA) thought he had secured a deal to keep the government open with a 1500-plus-page continuing resolution this week, but after Elon Musk led a charge against the bill, Trump came out against it as well.
On Wednesday’s edition of The Dean Obeidallah Show, SiriusXM host Dean Obeidallah asked Balint about Musk’s threats, and Balint said Republicans are privately fed up:
DEAN OBEIDALLAH: So you’re on the Budget Committee and I saw Speaker Johnson has got some kind of 1500 page bill to keep the government open for three months, and he’s getting attacked by the right.
So what’s what’s going on? Elon Musk is saying he’s going to primary anyone who votes for this, that he’s literally posting that. So what can you tell us?
BECCA BALINT (D-VT): So I’m so glad that you asked about this. I was literally moments ago in an elevator with some Republican members who are fuming about the fact that Musk is inserting himself into this conversation and that the threats over over Twitter I’m sorry, X, the threats over X, you know, to primary them, to come after them.
You know, so privately, at least they are– They’ve had it! They’ve had it with with people like Musk who think that they have the right to insert themselves into a process of elected officials.
We’ve all been elected to represent our constituents to try to represent them. He is not elected. I just want to remind everybody of that.
He may be a very wealthy person, but he’s been elected to nothing. And so there is a continuing resolution.
I want to also remind folks, we had months to deal with this. Okay? We had months. We knew it was coming up against the, you know, the holiday break. And of course, it’s always at the 11th hour.
And Johnson released it yesterday, his most extreme right flank, which has grown larger in the last few cycles. They are I think some of them are absolutists and don’t want to spend any money except if it’s on a on a tax cut.
But the rest of them, I think many of them are afraid of what will happen if they aren’t seen as. What’s the word I’m looking for? Appropriately– ass-kissy? Can I say that? Do you have to bleep that out?
DEAN OBEIDALLAH: No, it’s SiriusXM. You can curse all you want.
