House Republican Rips Mike Johnson ‘Dragging Trump’ Into Spending Bill ‘Circus’: ‘Completely Mishandled It!’
Rep. Victoria Spartz (R-IN) slammed House Speaker Mike Johnson for having “dragged” President-elect Donald Trump into the spending bill “circus” after being unable to rally House Republicans himself.
Trump and ally Elon Musk inserted themselves into the spending bill process on Wednesday to derail a bipartisan spending bill on Wednesday. Leading MAGA figures put pressure on House Republicans to reject it, even threatening the political future of lawmakers in the party who backed it.
Congressional leadership and Vice President-elect JD Vance then spent Thursday building a new spending bill that would appease Trump and avert a looming government shutdown. In a late vote, however, dozens of House Republicans voted against that bill too.
Speaking to Fox Business host Maria Bartiromo on Friday, Spartz placed responsibility for the fracas firmly with Johnson:
It’s an example of failure of leadership of Speaker Johnson. Speaker Johnson dragged President Trump into this circus. He completely miss handled it. He didn’t work with Republicans. His staff made deals with [Senate Majority Leader] Chuck Schumer, tried to jam in a Christmas present for Chuck Schumer and he didn’t get it.
Speaker Johnson doesn’t talk to House Republicans most of the time. It’s almost disrespectful, where members, at the last second, have a 1500-page bill and they expect them all to vote [a certain way].
