‘THAT’S What Just Happened?’ CNN Anchor Stunned By Trump Vaccine Rant In Bombshell Time Interview
In a new interview, CNN anchor Kate Bolduan was stunned by President-elect Donald Trump’s comments about vaccines, exclaiming, “That’s what just happened?”
This week, Trump was named Time Magazine’s “Person of the Year” for the second time — an achievement that was accompanied by a lengthy bombshell interview that included scores of newsworthy and otherwise provocative declarations and comments.
In one exchange, Trump expressed openness to HS pick Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s views on vaccines — and “getting rid” of some if he thinks they’re harmful:
RFK Jr, who is a noted vaccine skeptic. If he moves to end childhood vaccination programs, would you sign off on that?
We’re going to have a big discussion. The autism rate is at a level that nobody ever believed possible. If you look at things that are happening, there’s something causing it.
Do you think it’s linked to vaccines?
No, I’m going to be listening to Bobby, who I’ve really gotten along with great and I have a lot of respect for having to do with food, having to do with vaccinations. He does not disagree with vaccinations, all vaccinations. He disagrees probably with some. But we’ll have it. We’re going to do what’s good for the country.
So that could include getting rid of some vaccinations?
It could if I think it’s dangerous, if I think they are not beneficial, but I don’t think it’s going to be very controversial in the end.
Do you agree with him about the connection between vaccines and autism?
I want to see the numbers. It’s going to be the numbers. We will be able to do—I think you’re going to feel very good about it at the end. We’re going to be able to do very serious testing, and we’ll see the numbers. A lot of people think a lot of different things. And at the end of the studies that we’re doing, and we’re going all out, we’re going to know what’s good and what’s not good. We will know for sure what’s good and what’s not good.
On Thursday’s edition of CNN News Central, CNN correspondent Steve Contorno ticked through some of the interview minutes after it dropped. He began by reading off the vaccine exchange to an astonished Bolduan:
STEVE CONTORNO: He also spoke and was asked about vaccinations because he has Robert Kennedy Jr now joining his administration and whether or not he believes Robert f Kennedy should go through with some of his proposals on eliminating vaccines.
He was asked if RFK Jr moves to end childhood vaccination programs, would you sign off on that? And here’s what Trump said. He said, “We’re going to have a big discussion. The autism rate is at a level that nobody ever believed possible. If you look at things that are happening, there’s something causing it.”
KATE BOLDUAN: Donald Trump suggesting there that he believes the wildly debunked theory that autism is linked to vaccinations? THAT’S what just happened?!?
STEVE CONTORNO: That is what he said in this interview. And then he was went on to ask, do you think auism is linked to vaccines? He said, “I’m going to be listening to Bobby,” who obviously has made very clear where he stands on this debunked link between.
KATE BOLDUAN: Bobby, who listened to Andrew Wakefield, the Dr. Non-Doctor, who came up with this damaging theory, faked a study, had to have it retracted, I believe, lost his license then and had created havoc in its wake. There is no link between vaccines and autism, but he’s still saying that it’s a possibility.
STEVE CONTORNO: That’s correct. He went on to say that he doesn’t ultimately think what he does on vaccines is going to be very controversial in the end.
But obviously, 75 Nobel laureates have already come out telling the U.S. Senate to reject RFK Jr because of their concerns about what he has said about vaccines.
KATE BOLDUAN: That is wild! And dangerous!
