Hasan Piker Tells CNN Democrats Lost Because ‘They’re Terrified of Upsetting Their Corporate Donors’
Prolific Twitch streamer and progressive Hasan Piker offered a starkly different election post-mortem from the ones being advanced by the Democratic consultant class.
CNN’s Donie O’Sullivan interviewed Piker, whose election night livestream notched 7.5 million viewers when Vice President Kamala Harris lost to President-elect Donald Trump.
During the campaign, Trump went on several podcasts to reach young male voters. That included The Joe Rogan Experience, which the Harris campaign declined to do.
“We wanted to do it,” Harris campaign adviser Stephanie Cutter told Pod Save America. “So we had discussions with Joe Rogan’s team, they were great, they wanted us to come on, we wanted to come on, we tried to get a date to make it work and ultimately we just weren’t able to find a date. We did go to Houston and she gave a great speech at an amazing event.”
Rogan ultimately endorsed Trump.
O’Sullivan asked Piker what Democrats have to do differently.
“I think that they need to change their policies,” Piker replied. “It’s 100% a policy thing. It’s a boring answer. Although it would be very self-serving for me to say, ‘I’m the left’s Joe Rogan; the Democratic Party should give me millions of dollars,’ that’s not gonna solve this problem. What will solve this problem is if the Democratic Party actually adopts real left-wing economic populist messaging instead of purposefully avoiding that stuff because they’re terrified of upsetting their corporate donors.”
Piker added that Trump is able to connect with insecure male voters better than Democrats.
“I think Trump speaks to male insecurities better,” he continued. “And I think Trump speaks to the anger that people have, whereas the other side of the political spectrum does not speak to that anger at all.”
