CNN’s Brian Stelter: Trump Said ‘A Lot of Things That Don’t Make Sense’ in California

Speaking with CNN’s S.E. Cupp on Saturday,  Reliable Sources anchor Brian Stelter said President Donald Trump‘s talk of raking forest floors in California was not a “realistic answer.”

He also noted that Trump said a lot of things in California while visiting the fire-ravaged areas that did not make sense.

Stelter’s remarks came during a conversation with Cupp on how the media should cover the president.

He suggested that the media struggles covering his activities and events especially when he says things that don’t add up.

“Today, for example, today the president is on the West Coast visiting these sites of these horrific fires and he’s saying a lot of things that don’t make sense. He’s talking a lot about forest management as if the real problem is we need to rake the forest,” Stelter said. “That is not a realistic answer.”

He added: “Firefighters and scientists have been pretty clear he’s not on the right track here.”

Then turning to the media’s dilemma, Stelter continued on: “What do we do, not show his events? Do we wrap them in context? Do we start by saying ‘okay, the president has a lot of nonsense he’s sharing today. Here’s what he said, we’ll show it to you and then try to fact check it’? I think that’s probably closer to the right answer but it’s a struggle that’s happening in all of these newsrooms because we have a president who continues to spread misinformation every day.”

Speaking to reporters in California earlier Saturday, Trump was asked if seeing the devastation made him rethink his views on climate change.

“No, no, I have a strong opinion,” Trump replied.  “I want great climate. We’re going to have that and we’re going to have forests that are very safe.”

He also suggested raking the forest floor would stop such disasters.

“We have to take care of the floors, the floors of the forest; it is very important,” Trump opined, before suggesting Finland’s raking of forest floors prevents such fires from occurring.
