Megyn Kelly Criticizes TV Hosts for Getting Too Political Mere Weeks After Speaking at Trump Rally: ‘I’m an Independent’
Megyn Kelly described herself as an “independent” and boasted about “not putting on anyone’s jersey,” Wednesday, mere weeks after embracing President-elect Donald Trump on-stage at one of his campaign rallies.
During an appearance on Sky News Australia, Kelly criticized Morning Joe co-hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski for visiting Trump to “restart communications” following his election victory.
“It’s about two things. One, their ratings are in the toilet. Truly, they’ve beyond circled the bowl. They’ve lost half of their audience and they’re doing what they can to generate interest in the show,” Kelly told Sky News host Paul Murray, before adding that “the most important” reason was “access to power.”
She claimed:
It is the access to power that they crave, and this is what I find so unattractive, Paul. I have the opposite. As soon as anybody starts inviting me like too much into the fold, I repel. I’m like, “I’m out.” I’m not on anybody’s team. I’m not on your team, not on his team, her team. I’m a journalist, I’m an independent, I’m not putting on anybody’s jersey.
These two are like, “We’re out! No! What do we need to do to get back?!” It’s like, “Well your circle’s over here and they lost, so you have to rebuild and you have to say something to your viewers that’s gonna make them feel better and show the way forward.” “No, no! Our circle has no power! We need to be with the all-powerful one! Oh, maybe he’ll pat us on the head! Maybe we’ll get to go to a White House steak dinner! Maybe we’ll matter!”
Kelly made the remarks just weeks after she hugged Trump on-stage at one of his presidential campaign rallies and endorsed him as a “protector of women.”
Like Scarborough and Brzezinski, Kelly has also had a rocky relationship with Trump and spent many years feuding with the president-elect.
Less than a year ago in March, Trump accused Kelly of “making a career by pretending she likes me.”
