Rishi Sunak Accused Of Staging Question After Voter At Factory Visit Revealed To Be Tory Councillor

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak is under fire for allegedly faking public support after taking a question from a Conservative councillor posing as an ordinary voter during a campaign event.

While Sunak visited a distribution center in Derbyshire on Thursday, a man in a hi-vis jacket asked him about his Rwanda immigration plan, labelling immigration as the biggest issue for the upcoming election. The man was thanked by Sunak for his “important question.”

Byline Times political editor Adam Bienkov later identified as Conservative Leicestershire County Councillor Ross Hills.

Neither Sunak nor the broadcasters revealed Hills’ true identity during the event.

When contacted by Bienkov, Hills confirmed to Byline Times that he asked the question, acknowledging that he was asked to attend the event. When questioned if the Conservative party orchestrated his appearance and question, Hills cut the conversation short, saying he needed to go to work.

Correction: A previous version of this story described the distribution center as a McVitie’s Biscuit warehouse in Derbyshire. According to a spokesperson for McVitie’s, the center is sometimes used for “additional extra storage” of McVitie’s products but is not a McVitie’s warehouse. Mediaite regrets the error.
