Sky News Host Laughs At Minister Who Repeatedly Insists Tories Have ‘Got A Plan’

Sky News host Trevor Phillips couldn’t hold back his amusement when Transport Secretary Mark Harper and Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s close ally repeatedly insisted that the government have a “plan” and that “things don’t change overnight.”

Phillips interviewed Harper on Sunday Morning show on Sky News, asking him about the current government’s aim as a general election approaches and rumours circle of a plot to replace the prime minister with Commons leader Penny Mordaunt.

Harper, in defence of Sunak, fell into a circling jargon-filled ramble, repeating the prime minister’s pre-election catch phrase about his government having a “plan.”

Harper: “Look, we’ve got a plan. Things don’t change overnight. But I think colleagues looking at it can see we’ve got a plan. Politics is a team game. People can see we’ve got a plan. The plan is working. We’ve driven down inflation… We, as i said, we’ve already talked about our plan to get the Rwanda legislation on the statute book to stop the boats. We’ve made considerable progress. Reduction of 30 percent in people coming here compared to what’s happening in Europe, where those numbers are going up. The plan is working. I think colleagues need to have some confidence that it will deliver, and we’ll set out that choice at the election, and I’m confident that we’ll win.”

Thanking Harper, crossing to the panel, Phillips couldn’t quite hold back the laughter as he introduced each, apologising.

Surprised that Harper had only repeated himself three times, per one of the guests, Phillips introduced the topic of conversation as defined by the minister: “I’m sorry, ‘We have a plan here we try to stick to it…’”
