Legal Analysts Drop Bombshell Prediction: Trump Will Be Thrown in Jail in Hush Money Case

Several legal analysts predicted on Thursday that former President Donald Trump would be sentenced to time in prison after a jury found him guilty of all 34 counts in his New York hush money trial.

During an appearance on CNN’s Erin Burnett OutFront, former Department of Defense special counsel Ryan Goodman said, “I do anticipate that the district attorney will ask for some sentence of incarceration, and I do think that there’s a good likelihood that the judge will impose some sentence of incarceration.”

After CNN host Erin Burnett asked Goodman whether the sentencing – set for July 11 – would get delayed until after the Republican National Convention on July 15, Goodman replied, “I think the sentencing will probably happen according to the speed that the trial process should happen.”

He noted, “Many of these judges in all of these cases against Trump have said, ‘Look, we’re gonna respect the criminal justice process. We’re not going to go according to political calendar.'”

“But then they would delay the sentence until after?” questioned Burnett, to which Goodman replied, “100%, he will not be remanded to prison until he exhausts his appeals.”

Former prosecutor Mark O’Mara disagreed with Goodman, telling Burnett, “I don’t think he’s gonna put him in jail. I really don’t. I think the convictions themselves will be enough punishment in this judge’s eyes for this defendant.”

O’Mara added, “Even if he was given a sentence on July 11th, they will stay that until the appellate process is done, so he will not, I think, see a sentence until well into ’25.”

CNN legal analyst Norm Eisen, meanwhile, said that while he “strongly” agreed with O’Mara’s timeline, “In the most serious FBR [falsifying business records] cases, a sentence of imprisonment is routinely imposed.”

Eisen argued, “This is the most serious falsifying business records case in the history of the state of New York. I think Alvin Bragg is gonna ask for a sentence of incarceration and I think Judge Merchan will very seriously weigh that.”

On social media, anti-Trump attorney George Conway also agreed with Goodman that Trump would likely receive a sentence of incarceration.

“I thoroughly agree. Guilty of 34 felonies. No acceptance of responsibility. Total contempt for the law and the legal process,” he wrote. “Literally held in contempt 10 times. Attacks on witnesses and jurors. There’s no substantial justification for not sending him to prison.”
