JUST IN: NewsNation to Host Next GOP Primary Debate — With Megyn Kelly as Moderator

NewsNation has announced that they will host the fourth Republican presidential primary debate next month in Alabama in partnership with The CW Network.

The December 6th debate will occur at the University of Alabama in the Frank Moody Music Building in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. A live audio broadcast of the event will also be available on SiriusXM Triumph channel 111. The debate’s three moderators will be NewsNation anchor Elizabeth Vargas, Washington Free Beacon Editor-in-Chief Eliana Johnson, and SiriusXM host Megyn Kelly.

In a press release, Michael Corn, President of News at NewsNation, said, “NewsNation’s mission is to provide fair and unbiased news coverage, and that’s the way we will approach this important debate. We take this responsibility very seriously and are proud to help inform and educate voters and to contribute to the democratic process.”

Kelly has moderated five Republican primary debates throughout her career, the most famous one being the 2016 debate, where her tough questions drew the anger of Donald Trump. She recently interviewed the former president on her podcast while insisting their animosity is all in the past. That presidential primary debate remains the most watched in history, with 24 million viewers.

Trump has declined to participate in any of the primary debates, and The Hill reports that a senior adviser to Trump says that will not change for the fourth one.

NewsNation is home to the nightly primetime show Dan Abrams Live, hosted by Mediaite founder Dan Abrams. Mediaite has obtained a letter from Nexstar’s President of Networks, Sean Compton, who celebrated the news in a message to the network’s staff. Read the memo below:

Dear NewsNation Staff,

Just a few mins ago, the Republican National Committee announced NewsNation will host the next GOP presidential primary debate on December 6th. This announcement marks a significant milestone for our network, and I wanted to take a moment to reflect on the incredible journey we’ve taken together over the past 36 months.

Three years ago today, we were beginning our transition from one of three dozen general entertainment networks into a trusted cable news channel. We have achieved remarkable growth and transformation in that short time. We’ve welcomed new talent, both on and off air, and each has played a vital role in our progress. We’ve interviewed the two Presidents and Vice Presidents of the administrations in office during our time as a cable news player. We’ve covered two wars, we’ve continued reporting from cities like East Palestine when the other national news operations disappeared, we even helped save a teenage girl from becoming a potential sex trafficking victim with our commitment to finding missing persons. Thanks to the outstanding efforts of our distribution team, led by Dana Zimmer, we’ve expanded the reach of our network to a level equal to our cable news competitors.

From the very beginning, our mission, as stated in our first press release, has been “news absent bias.” We are proud to report that, according to a variety of media watchdog groups, we’ve successfully maintained this brand mission since day one. This achievement reflects the dedication and commitment of each member of our team to deliver unbiased news to our audience and serve up opinionated talk that is professional and respectful of differing viewpoints.

Thanks to the exceptional work of our leaders, Michael Corn and Cherie Grzech, NewsNation has been chosen as the host for the fourth and final Republican primary debate of 2023. This is a testament to our network’s growing importance and impact in the media landscape.

Thank you for your hard work and dedication. It is because of you that we really are America’s fastest growing newschannel.

Sincerely,

Sean
