Democrats Fume at ‘Uncommitted’ Movement Over Post-Election Statement: ‘Ask Jill Stein to Help?’
The leaders of the “uncommitted” movement received a fierce backlash online this week as they posted a statement regarding Donald Trump’s election victory and a last-minute call for President Joe Biden to take action in Israel’s war against Hamas.
The “uncommitted” movement protested Biden’s policies regarding Israel and the U.S. continued support for the country’s military operation against Hamas. The movement urged Democrats to vote “uncommitted” during the Democratic primaries and refused to endorse Vice President Kamala Harris ahead of the November election.
NBC News’s Sahil Kapur noted the brutal reactions, mostly from the left, to the group’s latest statement on X, writing, “The replies are shut off. The quote tweets responding to this are…”
In the lengthy statement, the group called on the Biden administration to “put an end to the flow of weapons that fuel this cycle of violence. If they do not, the Democratic Party risks straddling our coalition of voters with the ever-increasing weight of a legacy intertwined with endless war and suffering. Now is the time to listen, to reflect, and to forge a path that truly embodies the values we profess to represent-values that resonate deeply with every community feeling unheard and betrayed.”
Many of those reacting to the post noted Trump’s recently announced appointments, including pro-Israel hardliners like Mike Huckabee and Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL).
