Peter Doocy Snarks on Biden’s Blaming US Conservatives for Delaying Aid to Zelensky: ‘Politics Used to End at the Water’s Edge’

Peter Doocy could not resist making a not-so-subtle dig at President Joe Biden following news that he opened his joint press event with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenksy with an apology for aid delay and blaming US conservatives.

Doocy is in France covering Biden’s trip to Europe to commemorate the 80th anniversary of D-Day and took time to meet with the Ukrainian leader Friday. Biden opened by addressing the most recent $95 billion aid bill to support Ukraine against the invasion of the Russian military —a package that was delayed due to vigorous opposition by a small but significant number of House Republicans.

“I apologize for those weeks of not knowing what was going to pass in terms of funding and because we had trouble getting the bill that we had to pass. We had the money in it, ” Biden said to Zelennksy before assembled media. “Some of our very conservative members who were holding it up. But we got it done finally.”

Doocy reported on this to Fox & Friends Friday morning shortly after it occurred, seemingly before the footage could get from the press corps pool to the Fox News control room. However, Doocy could not help but throw a little shade on Biden’s blaming conservatives.

“President Biden apologized for the delay in funding,” Doocy reported. “He said, ‘You haven’t sat down. You haven’t yielded at all. I apologize for the first weeks of not knowing what’s going on in terms of funding because we had trouble getting the bill that had to pass.'”

“And he actually said, ‘because of some conservative members who are holding it up,'” Doocy added. “So typically, politics stops at the water’s edge. Not in this case, as President Biden is calling out House Republicans for slowing down the Ukraine aid that is ready to go. And that is what they are now talking about behind closed doors before the president comes here.”

Of course, what Biden said to Zelensky is entirely accurate—House Republicans did delay the funding for Ukraine. That said, it has long been a time-honored policy that US elected officials refrain from playing domestic politics overseas, though in the last ten years or so, that standard appears to have been situationally observed.
