‘You Don’t Get To Speak for All Jews’: Mehdi Hasan Gets Heated with Piers Morgan Over Pro-Palestine Protests
A discussion between Mehdi Hasan and Piers Morgan became heated on Wednesday as the two argued over Tuesday evening’s pro-Palestine protests at Columbia University.
After Morgan accused pro-Palestine students of harassing Jewish classmates with chants of “Intifada!” Hasan replied, “First of all, neither of us are Jewish and you don’t get to speak for all Jews.”
“Nor do you,” shot back Morgan.
Hasan insisted, “I’m not. I’m telling you not to speak for all Jews. I never spoke for all Jews,” before pointing out that there were many Jewish students and Jewish professors who also took part in the pro-Palestine protests.
“But many Jews on the airwaves are talking about this,” declared Morgan, to which Hasan replied, “And I’m saying there are many Jews who said the opposite.”
Hasan – who recently founded the media outlet Zeteo following the cancelation of his MSNBC show last year – continued:
I’m saying what about the Palestinian students who have also been doxed, harassed, assaulted? You don’t mention them. You didn’t mention them in the very long New York piece. You didn’t write a piece about three Palestinian students who got shot. Shot! Thank God no Jewish students have been shot. They got shot, one is now disabled earlier this year. In fact, this week a guy turned up with a knife in his belt. I think that’s much worse than shouting, “Intifada!” which as we’ve just discussed is not an anti-Semitic phrase.
After Morgan said the New York Police Department’s heavy-handed response to the protests were “long overdue,” Hasan mocked, “I thought this show was called ‘Uncensored’? Maybe you should rename it ‘Piers Morgan Censored’ if you’re in favor of cracking down on protests.”
“Listen, I do believe in uncensored. That’s why I let you come on and abuse me,” Morgan concluded.
