Commentator Owen Jones announced Wednesday that he’d joined former MSNBC host Mehdi Hasan’s new media organisation Zeteo.

In a post on X, Jones said that he was “unbelievably excited” to be joining Zeteo as a contributor. He will co-host a show twice a month with Hasan to delve into political issues in both the US and the UK.

Jones, a prominent figure in British journalism and left-wing political author, writes a column for The Guardian and has contributed to publications such as the New Statesman, The Independent, and The National. He currently also hosts two weekly web series: The Owen Jones Show and The Owen Jones Podcast.

Introducing him to Zeteo subscribers, Hasan praised Jones: “I have admired his honesty, integrity, knowledge, passion, and especially his humor. In recent months, he has taken unpopular but principled stances on Gaza and Israel.”

Since the beginning of Israel’s campaign in Gaza, following the Hamas attack on October 7, Jones has focused closely on the conflict and the response of British political parties. In March he announced he’d be leaving the Labour Party, which he had been a member of for 24 years, over party leader Keir Starmer’s leadership and expressed his disillusion with the party’s current leadership and direction. In a column he further cited the party’s handling and stance on the conflict in Gaza, which he called “the great crime of our age.”

Hasan announced Zeteo in February, a new subscription-based media outlet launched via Substack. The platform features a weekly series by Hasan, alongside contributions from various other creators including written content and podcasts. Zeteo was officially launched this month, beginning a gradual rollout.
