‘I Failed Miserably’: Former Trump WH Chief of Staff Says He’s Hopeful ‘A Lot Smarter Than I Am’ Elon Musk Can Fix Government
Former Trump White House chief of staff and NewsNation contributor Mick Mulvaney told Piers Morgan he was hopeful that Elon Musk could fix the government after he “failed miserably” in his own attempt, Wednesday.
Giving his advice to President-elect Donald Trump on Piers Morgan Uncensored, Mulvaney said:
There was a bunch of people here who have never voted Republican before. They voted for you. Why? They like you but they also believe that you are going to fix Washington. So yes, taxes are important, yes immigration is important, all of those things are important, but really the most important thing you can do in your legacy is fix Washington. These people think government doesn’t work for them and it doesn’t. What I think Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy are going to do might be the most important part.
He continued, “I don’t think they can do much on their own. They don’t have a lot of statutory authority. I was the last person, by the way, who was in charge of government restructuring and I failed miserably because everybody was against me. The House, the Senate, even most of the agencies. I remember the secretary of defense was against the things the president wanted me to do.”
After Morgan asked Mulvaney how Musk and Ramaswamy could avoid the same problem, Mulvaney replied, “First of all, Elon Musk is a lot smarter than I am.”
Morgan laughed before declaring, “Very honest of you. He’s a lot smarter than most of us.”
“And he’s got a bigger footprint and now it’s a movement, right?” Mulvaney argued. “When I was doing it, I was doing it because I was looking at a government that had been created in the 1920s and said, ‘We have to fix it.’ It’s not very sexy, Piers.”
He concluded, “Vivek and I think Elon Musk have the ability to sort of make this a cause celebre to the point where ordinary people are gonna care what’s happening when they fix the government.”
