Reporters Read Chip Roy Scathing Trump Criticism As He Says ‘I Don’t Even Know What We’re Talking About’
Capitol Hill reporters read to Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) the explosive criticism Donald Trump lodged at him on Truth Social earlier on Thursday over the ongoing budget crisis.
The president-elect accused the Texas lawmaker of obstructing budget negotiations and threatened to back a primary challenger in the next election cycle. Trump’s comments come after he pressured the GOP to pull a spending bill that would have kept the government funded until at least March 14th. Ironically, both Trump and Roy publicly opposed the bill. However, Trump had called to eliminate the debt ceiling, something Roy has long been opposed to doing.
“The very unpopular “Congressman” from Texas, Chip Roy, is getting in the way, as usual, of having yet another Great Republican Victory – All for the sake of some cheap publicity for himself. Republican obstructionists have to be done away with,” Trump wrote earlier in the day on Truth Social.

Reporters managed to catch up to Roy on Capitol Hill and read Trump’s comments out loud to him for a live reaction. CNN journalist Kit Maher asked Roy for his comments.
MAHER: Trump is saying you’re getting in the way of a Republican victory for cheap publicity. What’s your reaction to that?
ROY: I haven’t been able to read. All we’re doing is trying to talk about how to get a deal done so we can actually cut spending.
REPORTER: Do you plan to talk to him to smooth things over?
ROY: I don’t even know what we’re talking about. I got to look at whatever was put out there.
MAHER: He said, “Weak and ineffective people like Chip have to be dismissed as being utterly unknowledgeable as to the ways of politics, and as to Making America Great Again. Put America first and go for victory.”
ROY: We’re working right now on how to actually cut spending, which is what the voters sent me to Washington to do. So that’s what I’m working on.
