Tommy Tuberville Dismisses Matt Gaetz and Pete Hegseth ‘Rumors’: Trump Will ‘Not Pick’ A ‘Criminal’

Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) dismissed allegations against President-elect Donald Trump’s Attorney General nominee Matt Gaetz and Defense Secretary pick Pete Hegseth as “rumors”, claiming that the incoming president would not choose “somebody that’s a criminal.”

Gaetz had been under investigation by the House Ethics Committee for allegedly having inappropriate relationships with underage girls following a Justice Department investigation that failed to bring charges. At the same time, Hegseth reportedly paid off a woman who accused him of sexual assault. Both men deny the accusations.

Tuberville, appearing on Fox Business to speak with host Larry Kudlow, defended both Gaetz and Hegseth, arguing that no matter who Trump picks, “the media will hammer them every day.”

Well, first of all, no matter who President Trump picks, the media will hammer them every day. You know, we have all been around pretty long, Larry, it doesn’t make any difference. If you are a Republican, you have to fight your way through all this. If you remember Clarence Thomas and Brett Kavanaugh, we are going to look at facts, not rumors. There is more rumors going around there about Matt Gaetz and Pete Hegseth, and even all of them will have some kind of rumor when it comes down to it.

But we have to look at facts, but we have to help President Trump. He will not pick somebody that’s a criminal. He will not do that. He will vet everybody, he’s done. I’m looking forward to working with all of them and I’m looking forward to backing all of them as long as the facts are there.
