Fox’s Stuart Varney Stops GOP Rep. Claiming Elon Musk Will Cut $2 Trillion from Budget: That’s an ‘ENORMOUS Amount of Money!’

Fox Business host Stuart Varney pushed back against a GOP lawmaker over claims that Republican will cut $2 trillion from the annual budget.

Rep. Buddy Carter (R-GA) joined Varney for an interview on the business network on Thursday morning where he discussed the possibility of pushing through massive budget cuts if Donald Trump regains the presidency.

Previously, Elon Musk vowed to eliminate approximately $2 trillion from the federal budget if Trump wins this November. The GOP nominee has vowed to appointment Musk to lead an effort to cut government spending, called the Department of Government Efficiency.

Varney seemed skeptical of the possibility of removing that amount of money from the federal budget during his Thursday interview with Carter.

VARNEY: There’s widespread skepticism that he can actually get this done. Can you tell me how he’s going to cut 2 trillion out of the budget?

CARTER: Well, first of all, it can be done. We can cut 2 trillion out of the budget. Keep in mind now the the Biden-Harris administration-

VARNEY: But how, congressman, I’m sorry, but $2 trillion is an enormous amount of money. How’s he going to do it?

CARTER: Well, our budget is an enormous amount of money. Let me remind you. But even through executive action, just by executive action, the Biden-Harris administration has spent $1.2 trillion. There you have it. Waste, fraud and abuse. Let me assure you, as a member of the Budget Committee, I can assure you there is plenty of waste, fraud and abuse, plenty of money that can be cut in our budget. And we are doing that in the Budget Committee, right now. We are looking and trying to balance our budget and we’ve got a plan over the next ten years. If we follow that plan, we can balance our budget.
