Michael Flynn Under Fire After Suggesting That The U.S. Have Only One Religion

Former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn drew heat on Twitter for suggesting there should only be one religion in the U.S.

“When we talk about faith, there’s something shaking. The ground underneath us is shaking,” Flynn said Saturday in remarks during the conservative ReAwaken America tour.

He then invoked a frequently cited verse from Matthew: “You have to believe this, that God Almighty is like involved in this country, because this is it…This is the shining city on the hill.”

“So if we are going to have one nation under God — which we must — we have to have one religion, one nation under God and one religion under God,” Flynn continued. “All of us together, working together. I don’t care what your ecumenical services, or what you are. We have to believe that this is a moment in time where this is good versus evil.”

Flynn’s comment about having to have “one religion under God” quickly drew backlash.

Daily Beast’s Will Sommer noted that “just a few weeks ago, Michael Flynn had to convince his QAnon fans that he hadn’t become a Satanist” after a September prayer of his included the terms “sevenfold rays” and “legions.”
