Steve Bannon Rallies Behind Matt Gaetz, Urges Him to Return to Congress And Expose Colleagues’ ‘Sexual Depravity’
Former Trump White House advisor turned MAGA-world podcaster, Steve Bannon, urged ex-Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) to return to Congress in the wake of Monday’s House Ethics report release, which alleges Gaetz paid a minor for sex.
The 37-page Ethics Committee report is a lengthy description of the “substantial evidence” that Gaetz “violated House Rules, state and federal laws, and other standards of conduct prohibiting prostitution, statutory rape, illicit drug use, acceptance of impermissible gifts, the provision of special favors and privileges, and obstruction of Congress.”
“I’m strongly urging Matt Gaetz to return to Congress and on its first day next year, take a page from that old song ‘The Harper Valley PTA’ and expose all the hypocrites in the House who have used tax money to cover up their sexual depravity,” Bannon told his War Room audience. Gaetz himself suggested a similar plan last week, writing on X he could return to Congress and “file a privileged motion to expose every “me too” settlement paid using public funds.”
Bannon later added, “And the only way that we get that– we stop is to blink and play by their rules. Screw their rules. Screw them. They have destroyed this country. And Gaetz has to come back.”
The MAGA influencer went on to argue Gaetz should not go work as host for the far-right One American News Network:
To go to One America is to accept defeat. God, this is so obvious. Take the Ethics report and shove it up your ass. That’s what I think. Gates must return like Trump returns. We don’t back down. Double down.
Over the weekend, Bannon spoke at Turning Point USA’s AmericaFest in Phoenix and made similar comments.
“Here’s the thing. And I think that’s going to need to know that people have his back. Do we care what an Ethics Committee report says about Matt Gaetz?” Bannon said to the MAGA crowd.
“Do we love Matt Gaetz?” he added the cheers of agreement.
“We want Matt Gaetz back in the fight. Now, look, I love the Herrings and One America News, a great news organization. You know, he gets his deal over there, does it? But Matt Gates has got to come back the first week of January and take the oath and sign up for this team. We want to tell MSNBC and CNN where to stick it about Matt Gates, where the sun don’t shine,” Bannon continued as he led the crowd in a chant of “Matt, Matt, Matt, Matt, Matt!”
“See they what they try to do. If you’re intimidated on anything, when they instead of backing down like the Republicans do, you double down, right? Instead of retreating, we go fixed bayonets and we advance. Is what saved Hegseth. Right. Instead of surrender, we fight,” Bannon concluded.
Bannon later also suggested that President-elect Donald Trump, who initially nominated Gaetz to be attorney general, work to install Gaetz as speaker of the House.
