After Twitter/X owner and conspiracy theorist Elon Musk allowed right-wing extremist Alex Jones back on the platform, the father of one of the 20 child victims of the 2012 Sandy Hook mass shooting called Musk a “sociopath” who “has no convictions.”

David Wheeler, the father of Benjamin Wheeler, who was killed in the shooting when he was six years old, told TMZ that the decision to let Jones back on the platform proved the billionaire was a “sociopath.” When citing the unscientific poll Musk conducted with Twitter/X users asking if Jones should be allowed back on the platform, Wheeler said that since it was “based on the opinions of users and not his own convictions, tells me that he has no convictions.”

Jones was kicked off Twitter in 2018 because of his continued false claims that the Sandy Hook shooting was an elaborate hoax, that what the public saw were “crisis actors” setting up a “false flag” in order to get stricter gun control laws passed. His constant conspiratorial ravings inspired his followers to harass the survivors of the victims. Last year, Jones was ordered to pay the families a total of over $1.4 billion in punitive damages when he was found liable for defamation.

Musk posted his poll on December 9, the 11th anniversary of the Sandy Hook shooting, and asked users if Jones should be reinstated. In the end, just over 70 percent of users said he should. Just about a year before that poll, not long after he bought Twitter, Musk said: “I have no mercy for anyone who would use the deaths of children for gain, politics or fame.” Despite that, he reinstated Jones on December 10, then hosted Jones on Twitter Spaces. Jones also appeared on Tucker Carlson’s Twitter/X show two days before being reinstated.

Wheeler also told TMZ that if Musk felt that people like Jones had a place on his platform, then others should get off and get rid of the app altogether.
