MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell Speculates About ‘Anti-MAGA’ Motive Behind Vegas Cybertruck Explosion: ‘Trump’s Hotel, Elon Musk’s Vehicle’

MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell speculated as to whether there might have been an “anti-MAGA” motive behind a Tesla Cybertruck explosion in front of the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas Wednesday morning.

Mithcell asked the question during a Thursday interview with Rep. Jim Himes (D-CT) as the two discussed the New Year’s Day New Orleans terror attack and the incident in Las Vegas.

It is not clear if the two incidents are related, although their timing and the fact that both acts were carried out in rented trucks by former or active-duty U.S. Army personnel are raising suspicions.

The FBI says 42-year-old veteran Shamsud-Din Jabbar killed 14 people with a truck Wednesday morning in New Orleans before he was killed by police in a firefight. The media in Colorado Springs identified 37-year-old Matthew Livelsberger as the man in the Vegas Cybertruck who died hours later at the Trump Hotel.

On MSNBC Reports, Mitchell noted investigators said Jabbar had an allegiance to ISIS. Himes responded:

His truck had an ISIS flag on it. He had posted Facebook videos an hour or two before the attack in which he said that he had pledged allegiance to ISIS and he had a whole series of grievances. Those Facebook videos have now been taken down. But there’s very little question that this guy in New Orleans, Jabbar, was radicalized. The Las Vegas case appears different right now. There’s just no evidence as to what the motive in that particular case would be. So that’s more of a challenge.

Mitchell followed up, “Are they suspicious about the fact that it was the Trump Hotel, that it was an Elon Musk vehicle? Do they think there’s some sort of anti-MAGA, anti-Trump motivation?”

Himes concluded it was too early to speculate and criticized President-elect Donald Trump for blaming the New Year’s Day violence on immigration.

“They were both U.S. citizens that were both military personnel,” Himes said. “This has nothing to do with open borders. And so it. So I try not to deal in suspicions.”
