‘Obviously’: Vegas Sheriff to Reporter on Whether Musk Trump Connection ‘Interesting’ to Investigators in Cybertruck Blast at Trump Hotel
Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Sheriff Kevin McMahill held a briefing on Wednesday evening on the Cybertruck blast at the Trump Hotel in Las Vegas and told a reporter that “obviously” the connection between Tesla CEO Elon Musk and President-elect Donald Trump is of interest to investigators.
McMahill stressed in his briefing on the explosion that, at the time they were speaking, no evidence had been uncovered to tie the blast to the New Orleans terror attack or the terrorist organization ISIS. But he and the other officials who spoke emphasized that they have not ruled anything out in their investigation into what caused the fire and explosion that took place in front of the Trump International in Las Vegas.
The Sheriff was asked several questions on the subject of whether or not this was a deliberate act or something else, and did not offer any specific theories to reporters. He did, however, acknowledge that the connection between the Tesla vehicle and the location was of interest.
When a reporter asked whether that connection is “interesting” from an “investigative perspective,” McMahill spelled it out.
“Well, I mean, it’s a Tesla truck and we know that Elon Musk is working with President elect Trump and it’s the Trump Tower,” he said. “So there’s obviously things to be concerned about there.”
After pointing out the obvious, he noted, “that’s something we continue to look at.”
Another reporter asked about the fact that both the Cybertruck in Vegas and the vehicle used in the New Orleans terror attack on the same day were rented from the same service, Turo.
“Elon Musk is saying this vehicle and the vehicle in New Orleans were rented from the same company. Has there been any other indication that these two events might be associated?” a reporter asked.
“That’s another coincidence that absolutely is continuing to bear, from our investigation that we have to continue to look into,” McMahill said.
The Sheriff also thanked Musk personally for his assistance in the investigation.
“I have to thank Elon Musk specifically. He gave us quite a bit of additional information in regards to how the vehicle was locked after it exploded due to the force of the nature. or the nature of the force from the explosion, as well as being able to capture all of the video from the Tesla charging stations across the country,” he said. “And they were, he sent that directly to us. So I appreciate his help on that.”
