Suspected CEO Killer’s Social Media Accounts Taken Down — But His Apparent X Account Remains Up
The social media pages of the suspected killer behind the assassination of a health insurance CEO have been taken down by various platforms, but his apparent X account remains up.
Luigi Mangione was arrested this week and charged with the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. Thompson was shot last week in New York City. Mangione was found in Pennsylvania with a manifesto railing against health insurance companies, and his friends have revealed the suspected killer was suffering from pain after a back surgery.
Meta took down accounts tied to Mangione on both Facebook and Instagram according to their social media policies. A LinkedIn page for Mangione is also currently inactive.
Reporters also noted that a YouTube page carrying Mangione’s name was taken down, but there has been no confirmation this was his channel.
Mangione’s apparent account on X, formerly Twitter — created in 2016 — appears to still be up.
The last tweet from the account was in June and the pinned post at the top of the page is from 2022 and references the once-valedictorian’s speech to his senior class.
The X account was briefly suspended, but X owner Elon Musk wrote in a tweet that this was done so without his knowledge. The page now appears restored.
“This happened without my knowledge. Looking into it,” Musk wrote on Thursday in response to someone showing the account was suspended.
As of Tuesday afternoon, the account had gained hundreds of thousands of followers.
Mangione screamed at the press on Tuesday while being taken into court by authorities in Blair County, Pennsylvania.
“This is extremely unjust, and an insult to the intelligence of the American people!” the 26-year-old shouted.
