Charles Barkley Absolutely Torches Artist Behind Controversial Dwyane Wade Statue: ‘Get Your Education Next Time!’
Charles Barkley and the rest of the Inside the NBA crew roasted artists responsible retired star Dwyane Wade’s statue in Miami.
The Miami Heat on Sunday unveiled the statue immortalizing the franchise’s greatest player. It captures what is considered his most iconic moment: hitting the game-winning shot against the Chicago Bulls in March 2009, jumping onto the scorer’s table, and telling the home crowd, “This is my house.”
Unfortunately for everyone involved in its creation, the response was overwhelmingly negative and few people saw the resemblance.
To open Tuesday night’s episode of Inside the NBA, host Ernie Johnson joked that for Halloween, all of them dressed like Wade.
“We look as much like D as the — there’s the statue!” Johnson said as the statue’s face was shown on screen.
Kenny Smith was more lenient and warned that the harsh criticism could force them to take the statue down.
That’s exactly what Barkley wanted.
“Let’s hope they do!” he quickly fired back.
Smith argued that the lack of a resemblance was due to the fact the statue depicted Wade making an “animated face.”
“If you made an animated face and then made a bronze statue–” Smith said.
“If you made an ugly statue, that’s what it would look like,” Barkley responded. “That thing’s awful!”
Barkley continued to pile on, joking that the face of the statue was actually Wade’s expression when he first saw it.
“Hey, Kenny, the statue was so bad, they had to put all his stat behind it so you’d know who it was,” he said.
“Shout-out to the statue maker. Get your education next time! You’re not good at your first job.”
