Texas Authorities Responding to Multiple Package Explosions in Austin

Police in Austin, TX are handling an emergency situation today after a series of package bombs caused death and injury throughout the city in the last few days.

The Austin Police Department was mobilized this morning after receiving a call about an explosion that killed a 17-year-old and injured a woman. Reports indicate that the blast happened after the teenager found a package outside his residence, and it blew up after he brought it inside and tried to open it.

Hours later, a second explosive went off in the city, with reports saying another woman has been injured.

Some law enforcement officials are drawing connections between today’s blasts and another explosion that happened in the city earlier this month. Police Chief Brian Manley told reporters that the bomb’s composition and the resemblances between the three incidents would suggest a link.

“There are similarities that we cannot rule out that these two items are, in fact, related,” Manley said.

The chief sent out a Twitter alert today, advising people not to open any unexpected packages.
