JUST IN: Gunfire Erupts at Joint Base San Antonio With Multiple Active Shooters At Main Gate
Security personnel at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland exchanged fire with multiple active shooters at a main gate. Local law enforcement responded and is on the scene outside the gate at the Texas military facility.
Officials have released no details on the number of shooters or their status. The incident took place at the entry gate to the JBSA-Chapman Training Annex at around 4:30 a.m. local time on Saturday.
Some reports indicate the shooters attempted to gain entry to the base. KHOU in Houston has reported that officials are calling it “an off-base shooting incident” that was not targeting the base. Officials did say the active shooters were not known to have military affiliations.
The only public announcement from the base has been the closure of the gate where the incident took place.
This is a developing story and may be updated.
