‘It’s More Beautiful Than Love!’ Trump Tells Rogan Massive Tariffs Could Fix Everything AND Replace Income Tax: ‘Why Not?’
Donald Trump spent three hours with Joe Rogan this week and among many memorable moments, spoke with adoration of the power and wonder of trade tariffs, even confirming he’s talked about the practice replacing the American income tax.
Trump opted to accept the invitation for a long, wide-ranging, sit-down interview on the world’s most popular podcast, and spent three hours on the show on Friday. His rival for the presidency Vice President Kamala Harris has declined to participate – for which she was criticized and Trump praised by democratic analyst and pundit Van Jones on Real Time with Bill Maher the same day.
Among the many wild highlights from the extensive conversation, Trump at one point extolled the virtues of tariffs, as he has done frequently over the last few months and in particular recent weeks.
“To me, the most beautiful word – and I’ve said this for the last couple of weeks – in the dictionary today and any is the word tariff,” said Trump. “It’s more beautiful than love, it’s more beautiful than anything. It’s the most beautiful word.”
“This country can become rich with the use, the proper use of tariffs,” he added.
Rogan asked him if it’s true he recently “floated out the idea of getting rid of income taxes and replacing it with tariffs,” saying, “Were you serious about that?”
“Yeah, sure. Why not?” Trump replied, going on to talk about how 25th President of the United States William McKinley had used them effectively.
TRUMP: And I said, if that plant goes up, I want them to understand, if I win, I’m going to tax those cars at the rate of 100 or 200% apiece. So that you won’t be able to sell them in the United States. They just announced they’re not going to build the plant.
ROGAN: Yeah, I read this.
TRUMP: I did a big favor for our country by doing that. And I’m not even there yet. To me, the most beautiful word – and I’ve said this for the last couple of weeks – in the dictionary today and any is the word tariff. It’s more beautiful than love, it’s more beautiful than anything. It’s the most beautiful word. This country can become rich with the use, the proper use of tariffs. It’ll keep companies –.

TRUMP: Well, okay,.
ROGAN: Were you serious about that?
TRUMP: Yeah, sure. Why not? Because we — Ready? Our country was the richest in the relatively in the 1880s and 1890s. A president who was assassinated named McKinley. He was the tariff king. He spoke beautifully of tariffs. His language was really beautiful. We will not allow the enemy to come in and take our jobs and take our factories and take our workers and take our families unless they pay a big price. And the big price is tariffs.
TRUMP: Had the greatest economy in history. Never has there been an economy,.
ROGAN: And you attribute that to lowering taxes and tariffs.
TRUMP: Two things. And also I cut regulations more than anybody else.
