CNN’s John Berman Opens Show With Cutting Jabs Aimed At Morning Joe And Ex-Fox News Hosts
CNN host John Berman wasted no time making waves during his guest-hosting stint on Newsnight Monday, opening the show with several sharp jabs at cable news rivals, pointed at President-elect Donald Trump’s Defense Secretary nominee, former Fox News host Pete Hegseth, and MSNBC’s Morning Joe hosts.
Since his nomination, Hegseth is the focus of reporting over an alleged hush payment to a woman accusing him of sexual assault in 2017, an offense with which he was never charged for and denies, while Morning Joe’s Mika Brzezinski and Joe Scarborough have come under fire from some liberals after revealing they met with Trump – who they were overtly critical of on the campaign trail – to “restart communications” ahead of his term in the White House.
Berman took aim at both the right-leaning and left-leaning network hosts in his stinging opener on NewsNight on Monday.
“Good evening. Abby is out, I’m John Berman,” he began.
“You might know me from a cable morning show,” Berman quipped. “Though not the one that might soon have a defense secretary who paid a woman that accused him of sexual assault, nor the one that just sent two anchors to Mar-a-Lago, then talked about it like it was the Yalta summit.”
Berman wrapped up his snappy opening with a nod to CNN’s morning show: “I cohost the morning show here on CNN that starts in like 10 minutes, so let’s get right to what America is talking about.”
