‘Deeply, Deeply, Dangerous’: Morning Joe’s Lemire Blasts Trump’s ‘Outright Lies’ Tying New Orleans Terrorist Attack to the Border
Morning Joe co-host Jonathan Lemire did not hold back in his condemnation of President-elect Donald Trump’s political rhetoric following the terrorist attack in New Orleans on New Year’s Day.
In the days that followed a horrific tragedy that saw over a dozen Bourbon Street pedestrians killed after an alleged ISIS sympathizer mowed them down in a rented pickup truck, Trump took to social media to ostensibly tie the terrible event to the Biden administration’s objective failure to secure the border for most of the administration. The alleged assailant, however, was an American citizen born in Beaumont, Texas, and a military veteran.
Trump took to social media and wrote, “With the Biden “Open Border’s Policy” I said, many times during Rallies, and elsewhere, that Radical Islamic Terrorism, and other forms of violent crime, will become so bad in America that it will become hard to even imagine or believe. ” He added, “That time has come, only worse than ever imagined,” in apparent reference to the New Orleans attack.
Fellow Republicans, such as Speaker Mike Johnson, later parroted this talking point, a clip of which aired at the top of the Morning Joe segment and included panelists Richard Haass and Eugene Daniels.
What followed was a detailed condemnation of what the host and panelists clearly saw as a dangerous and irresponsible framing of an attack made by a radicalized American citizen who, as far as we currently know, has had nothing to do with illegal border crossings.
Lemire summed the tenor of the segment up, saying,”This is a man who was once president… is about to be president again, dealing in outright lies — on national security issues —is deeply, deeply dangerous.
