CLINK, CLINK, CLINK: Unfortunate Microphone Positioning Mars MSNBC Interview With Congresswoman
The New Year arrived two days ago, but lots of clinks could still be heard on MSNBC on Thursday – thanks to the ill-advised placement of a microphone.
An otherwise routine interview with Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) was done in by a poorly placed mic on the congresswoman’s shirt. The result was a sound resembling the clinking of champagne flutes or perhaps a prospector’s rock pick hitting its target.
Crockett appeared on Thursday’s edition of Alex Wagner Tonight on MSNBC, where guest host Ali Velshi asked the lawmaker about the 119th Congress, which will be sworn in on Friday. Crockett and Velshi spoke for more than six minutes, during which time Crockett’s earring kept banging against her microphone, which was placed directly on the collar of her turtleneck under her left ear. Velshi remained stolid throughout, despite the very obvious audio issue. Although Crockett remained relatively still during the exchange, her dangling earring kept smacking the microphone.
The lawmaker addressed the prospects of Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA), who will attempt to be reelected to the top House post on Friday.
Here is an excerpt of their exchange in which Crockett talks about the current House rules package that will be voted on:
I’m curious to see if they get him back down to that one… vote… to vacate the speaker. [CLINK] Right now, in the proposed rules [CLINK], it’s gonna take a lot of people. And they have to come from the Republican side, which is [CLINK] very interesting. We’ve [CLINK] never seen that. [CLINK] Not that the [CLINK] Democrats have [CLINK] ever [CLINK] moved [CLINK] to vacate the speaker anyway. [CLINK, CLINK, CLINK]. He’s always been– or their speaker has always been vacated by someone on their side.
But I think that they are going to extract a little bit of blood out of Mike Johnson if he is going to become speaker again. [CLINK, CLINK, CLINK] But they really don’t have anybody else. So, this is really a matter of who can hold out the longest. [CLINK, CLINK, CLINKETTY CLINK]
