Police arrested a man possessing a machete and three knives at the Capitol on Wednesday shortly before President-elect Donald Trump arrived to meet with Senate Republicans.
Trump also viewed the casket of former President Jimmy Carter, who was lying in state in the Capitol Rotunda after dying last month at the age of 100.
Capitol Police said the man was stopped after an X-ray at a security checkpoint revealed he was carrying a machete. A subsequent search uncovered the three knives.
Security was upped at the Capitol this week ahead of Monday’s vote in Congress to certify Trump as the winner of the 2024 presidential election.
