CNN Halloween Segment Derails From the Start When Harry Enten Comes on Set Dressed As a Taco
The last segment of a cable news program generally takes on a lighter tone, sometimes even irreverent. CNN News Central‘s Halloween edition was no exception, especially when one of the network’s employees showed up dressed as a taco.
There was a hint of something to come when laughter could be heard off-camera as CNN anchor John Berman introduced a segment on this year’s most popular Halloween costumes. There was actually polling involved! And that meant data analyst Harry Enten was up to bat, but he wasn’t just bringing a new election-focused number narrative to the big board. He was bringing BTE — Big Taco Energy.
Yes, Harry Enten was dressed as a taco. And he delivered his Halloween costume polling data while dressed as a taco. Absolutely no one on set was able to be a professional about this, and during this chaotic election season, maybe they’re all entitled to a few silly minutes while a tall man dressed as a taco talks about the news. But Enten was not the only one in costume!
Berman: This year I went as Jake Tapper. Last year I went as [ABC’s] David Muir. But this year, a little too gray to be Muir, so I am Jake Tapper this year.
Sara Sidner: WOW.
Kate Bolduan: Amazing.
Berman: He was dissing me on Twitter, I’m just saying.
As the segment wrapped up, Sidner invited Enten to join her and the other anchors at the news desk to wrap up the show:
Sidner: Please come. And you know why? Because the best part of this segment was how uncomfortable John Berman was.
Berman: I’m uncomfortable because it’s hard shell taco. Gonna leave it there.
Bolduan: You really are so good at dad jokes. Harry, thank you. You have done what our favorite thing to do is, is just make him squirm.
Bolduan ended the show with: “Thank you all so much for joining us! This is CNN News Central. We think we’ll be back tomorrow. We’ll check our e-mail after this.”
