Michigan Mayor Slams John Fetterman on MSNBC for Criticism of Muslim Voters: He’s ‘Done More’ for Israel Than for Pennsylvania
Dearborn Mayor Abdullah Hammoud took issue with Pennsylvania Sen. John Fetterman’s comments on Muslim voters in the Michigan city.
One of the biggest takeaways from Donald Trump’s win over Vice President Kamala Harris in the presidential elections was how much ground Trump gained in key demographics since his loss in 2024. While President Joe Biden won the Latino male vote by 23 points in 2020, Harris lost it by 12 for a staggering 35-point swing in favor Trump. Biden’s 39-point win with Latina women shrank to 22 points with Harris.
Trump also saw significant gains within the Arab community. In Dearborn — the largest majority-Arab city in the country — he lost to Biden by a margin of around 3-to-1. This election cycle, he captured 42.48% of the vote compared to Harris’s 36.26%. It’s the first time a Republican has won the city since George W. Bush in 2000.
In response to Trump winning Dearborn, Fetterman said in an interview with Semafor that its residents were “going to love the next Muslim ban.”
Speaking to Ayman Mohyeldin on Sunday, Hammoud called Fetterman before explaining why Harris lost a large portion of Muslim and Arab voters.
“I think Fetterman has done more for the state of Israel than he has for the residents of Pennsylvania,” Hammoud said. “And, obviously, you saw the election results in Pennsylvania; so those speak for themselves. I don’t think anybody should ask John Fetterman what’s happening in the city of Dearborn. Come to speak to our residents. Again, this is where folk try to analyze precinct data and determine and pontificate on what actually unfolded. People here feel betrayed. They want a president who is seeking to re-instill decency and morality back to the White House. And we did our part. For nearly one year, we warned the democratic presidential candidates on the issue of Gaza. But what happened? They stoked hatred towards university protesters who were standing up against genocide. They wagged their finger at residents who thought that they could not go to the ballot box and morally fill in the bubble for the democratic candidate given the onslaught in the current genocide that’s unfolding.
“The ethnic cleansing in North Gaza that’s happening right now, that’s happening under the current democratic president. The nearly over 100,000, few hundred thousand killed or injured and the millions displaced, that’s happening currently under the current democratic president; and so don’t come to us and tell us about things would be different after they assume office. Tell us today why it was worth the risk of a Donald Trump presidency for you to stand in strong alignment with Benjamin Netanyahu and his cabinet of war criminals. And that was not a question that they could provide an answer to.”
