‘NOTHING WAS GAINED’: Trump Buries/Praises McCarthy/GOP for ‘Dumbest’ Decision in Years – But It Should Be Blamed on Dems Tho!
President-elect Donald Trump on Sunday delivered a mixed statement on the debt ceiling and former Republican Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy, praising him while trashing his decisions as harmful to the GOP.
The 2023 budget deal between then-Speaker McCarthy and President Joe Biden has been a major point of contention among Republicans and contributed to McCarthy’s ouster from leadership, and on Sunday it came up again when Trump posted about his frustration on his Truth Social app.
Trump began by calling McCarthy a “good man” and a “friend of mine” before turning immediately to the deal McCarthy cut as “one of the dumbest political decisions made in years.”
“There was no reason to do it,” Trump wrote, adding that “NOTHING WAS GAINED, and we got nothing” out of agreeing to the extension, which lasts through June of Trump’s first year in his second term.
“It was Biden’s problem, not ours. Now it becomes ours,” Trump wrote.
After the praise-bash of his dumb decision-making friend who is a good man, Trump said that Democrats want a Depression if it hurts Republicans, and that they must be “forced to take a vote on this treacherous issue NOW” while Biden is still in office, rather than in June when he is.
“They should be blamed for this potential disaster, not the Republicans!” Trump concluded.
The extension of the Debt Ceiling by a previous Speaker of the House, a good man and a friend of mine, from this past September of the Biden Administration, to June of the Trump Administration, will go down as one of the dumbest political decisions made in years. There was no reason to do it – NOTHING WAS GAINED, and we got nothing for it – A major reason why that Speakership was lost. It was Biden’s problem, not ours. Now it becomes ours. I call it “1929” because the Democrats don’t care what our Country may be forced into. In fact, they would prefer “Depression” as long as it hurt the Republican Party. The Democrats must be forced to take a vote on this treacherous issue NOW, during the Biden Administration, and not in June. They should be blamed for this potential disaster, not the Republicans!
Earlier this month, Trump told NBC News he would be in favor of Democrats “getting rid” of the debt ceiling altogether.
