MSNBC’s Katy Tur Bails on Trump SCOTUS Speech: ‘Word Salad and Whatever Comes to Mind’

It did not take long before MSNBC bailed on Donald Trump’s Monday address from Mar-a-Lago on Monday responding to the Supreme Court unanimously overturning a Colorado Supreme Court decision booting the former president from the state’s presidential ballot.

Republican activists in Colorado argued that Trump was disqualified from office under a Fourteenth Amendment clause barring those who participated in a rebellion or insurrection from holding public office. They cited Trump’s involvement in the Jan. 6 Capitol riot, but the Supreme Court found that the state could not keep Trump from holding public office on those grounds.

In his Monday comments, Trump broadly spoke about his various criminal charges, repeating his long-held claim they are nothing more than a political witch hunt. He suggested coordination between the White House and Department of Justice and railed against Fulton Country, Georgia District Attorney Fani Willis. Trump highlighted accusations that Willis was having an inappropriate relationship with her Special Counsel Nathan Wade before he was hired onto the racketeering case centered on Trump and several of his allies trying to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election in Georgia.

As Trump declared a “president has to be free” and argued he has broad presidential immunity against all of his charges, MSNBC dumped out with Katy Tur provided a quick fact check of some of Trump’s comments.

“Okay, the White House has not had any coordination with the DOJ on the prosecutions regarding Donald Trump. This is totally separate. It’s a special counsel. The special counsel decided to bring charges. In terms of the Fani Willis stuff, I believe that Nathan Wade testified that he was making more money before he started to work for Fani Willis down there,” Tur said.

As she brought on reporter Garrett Haake, Tur referred to Trump’s speech as a “word salad” and argued it harkened back to a more unrestrained Trump from 2016.

“Why didn’t he come out with a prepared statement? Why this — why going back to the bad old days of Trump where he comes out with a word salad and whatever else comes to mind and whatever allegation he can toss out,” she said.
