MSNBC Guest Mocks Melania Trump Over ‘Naked Pictures’ and ‘Nude Photoshoots,’ Suggests She Was ‘Speaking’ to Young Male Voters
Joanna Coles, the Chief Content and Creative Officer at the Daily Beast, suggested that former First Lady Melania Trump was attempting to appeal to “young men” with her nude modeling decades ago during an appearance on MSNBC’s Morning Joe on Thursday.
Coles’s comments came during a discussion on the recent revelation that Trump is pro-choice, and host Mika Brzezinski asked Coles for her reaction.
“Well, I mean, Melania has asserted control over her own body because she’s removed it from living with Donald Trump and is now back in New York overseeing Barron’s education at NYU,” began Coles. “Look, this is a very familiar Republican trope. The wives come out and say they believe in abortion rights when their husbands who have the power to actually take away women’s rights. And we’ve seen that with the extraordinary boasting by Donald Trump of his victory with the Supreme Court dismantling Roe v. Wade. They say, when they have the, men have the power to actually take away the rights and then the women simper around saying, ‘Oh goodness, well, I didn’t believe it.’ I don’t think we should take this remotely seriously.”
After Coles had finished, Katty Kay suggested that there might be a political explanation for Trump’s sudden announcement of her position.
“I don’t know that this makes any difference in terms of the election or the grander scheme of things. But it is worth pointing out that one of the most pro-choice groups in the United States at the moment is young men under the age of 40 who actually have turned out in all of those referendums that we’ve had in Kentucky, I mean Kansas and Ohio, they’ve turned out to defeat restrictions on abortion,” she observed.
“I don’t know if Melania is talking to those young men particularly. She may be talking just to their wives. But this is, you know, she’s in line with where most of the United States is and all the polling shows where the population is. She’s just not particularly in line with where her husband’s politics are,” concluded Kay.
“Well, she may have been speaking to those young men with her naked pictures when she did the nude photoshoots in GQ,” joked Coles in response.
Last month, Trump dropped a video defending her work as a nude model.
“Why do I stand proudly behind my nude modeling work?” asked Trump in the video. “The more pressing question is why has the media chosen to scrutinize my celebration of the human form in a fashion photoshoot? Are we no longer able to appreciate the beauty of the human body? Throughout history, master artists have revered the human shape, evoking profound emotions and admiration. We should honor our bodies and embrace the timeless tradition of using art as a powerful means of self-expression.”
