Melania Trump Drops Abortion Bomb — Comes Out Hard For Choice 'Free From Any Intervention Or Pressure' From Govt

Former First Lady Melania Trump dropped an abortion bomb, coming out hard for choice in a stark break from former President Donald Trump’s stated anti-abortion stance — or stances.

Trump has been trying to walk a line between bragging about overturning Roe v. Wade and trying to reassure voters he won’t sign a national abortion ban — while refusing to actually say he would veto one. He has come out against Florida’s six-week ban, then within a day said he will vote to uphold it.

Into that already-shaky China shop has stepped Melania, whose upcoming memoir Melania has been dribbling out in advance of publication. According to an excerpt obtained by The Guardian, her stance is just to the left of a clinic escort:

“It is imperative to guarantee that women have autonomy in deciding their preference of having children, based on their own convictions, free from any intervention or pressure from the government,” the Republican nominee’s wife writes, amid a campaign in which Donald Trump’s threats to women’s reproductive rights have played a central role.

“Why should anyone other than the woman herself have the power to determine what she does with her own body? A woman’s fundamental right of individual liberty, to her own life, grants her the authority to terminate her pregnancy if she wishes.

“Restricting a woman’s right to choose whether to terminate an unwanted pregnancy is the same as denying her control over her own body. I have carried this belief with me throughout my entire adult life.”

In the excerpt, she goes on to frame the issue as one of “personal freedom.”

Melania has been going all out to promote the book, which comes out October 8.  Mrs. Trump posted black and white teaser videos to social media — one of which raised eyebrows with its conspiratorial tone — and did a lengthy interview for Fox News that expanded on that.
