‘It’s a Terrible Thing For Him to Say’: Pro-Trump CNN Contributor Blasts Ex-President’s Comments on Pence

CNN contributor David Urban, a senior advisor to Donald Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign, blasted his old boss on Friday over Special Counsel Jack Smith’s claim that he said “So what?” when he was informed that Vice President Mike Pence had been evacuated during the January 6 Capitol riot.

In a new filing, Smith alleges that Trump uttered the question after being informed that Pence had been rushed to a secured location as rioters breached the Capitol Building, as Trump assailed Pence on Twitter for not having “the courage” to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election.

Urban’s chastisement of Trump came during a discussion about Smith’s filing, which Urban argued was politically motivated.

“Okay. So when Donald Trump, according to the Jack Smith filing, says about Mike Pence, ‘So what?’ Don’t you have a problem with that?” CNN’s Jim Acosta asked Urban.

“Yeah, it’s bad. He shouldn’t have done it. Listen, I think it’s bad,” replied Urban.

“But here’s the problem: Jack Smith shouldn’t be putting that out” in order to influence the 2024 election,” he continued.

“I know, but you were saying that, you know, it’s the responsibility of people who stormed the Capitol, not Donald Trump when Donald Trump is saying, ‘So what?’ about his vice president and whether or not he might be-”

“I think it’s a terrible thing for him to say if he said it” interjected Urban. “I’m not going to defend that. But what I’m saying is Jack Smith is not allowed to be doing that with the intent of affecting the election.”

“I hope everybody plays by the rules, too, right? Let’s play by the rules. You can’t say what’s good for the, you can’t be chastising the Trump and Republicans for election interference and have Jack Smith interfering with election or the United States Naval Academy has a speaker coming this week on the 10th to deride Donald Trump in clear violation of Department of Defense policies,” he concluded.
