DC Elite, ‘Speaker Pelosi’ Turn Out for Debbie Wasserman Schultz Book Launch Party
On Wednesday night, Senator Mary Landrieu (D-LA) hosted a launch party for DNC Chair Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz‘s new book, For the Next Generation: A Wake-Up Call to Solving Our Nation’s Problems. A spirited crowd of Democratic elected officials, pundits, and journalists turned out to celebrate Wasserman Schultz, including House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (R-CA), or as Sen. Landrieu called her to huge cheers at the event, “Speaker Pelosi.”
Other attendees included Minority Whip Steny Hoyer, AFL-CIO head Richard Trumka, Organizing For Action’s Jim Messina, Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-CT), Rep. Donna Edwards (D-MD), Rep. Karen Bass (D-CA), Rep. Joe Garcia (R-FL), Dee Dee Myers, Tammy Haddad, Hilary Rosen, Maria Cardona, Donna Brazile, Eleanor Clift, CNN’s Sam Feist, my old friend Lynn Sweet, Rick Klein, Annie Groer, Voice of Russia’s Kim Brown, and many others. A tasteful array of finger foods was served, along with a nice selection of wines. The conversation was lively and loud, and the assembled Who’s Who of Democratic lawmakers was in high spirits.
Rep. Wasserman Schultz was all smiles as she signed copies of her book well past the event’s scheduled end time of 8 pm, and even stuck around for a quick interview while she and husband “Saint Steve” Schultz waited for their Uber car.
Rep. Wasserman Schultz’s book is, as she describes it, a “manifesto” of progressive politics, written with accessibility in mind. Here are photos and videos from the event, including Jim Messina’s somewhat profane introduction, Rep. Wasserman Schultz’s remarks, and a short speech by former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi
